The Internet today is a widespread information infrastructure, the initial prototype of what is often called the National (or Global or Galactic) Information Infrastructure. Its history is complex and involves many aspects – technological, organizational, and community. And its influence reaches not only to the technical fields of computer communications but throughout society as we move toward increasing use of online tools to accomplish electronic commerce, information acquisition, and community operations.
The origins of the Internet began when Russian state in 1957 (at that time called the USSR, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) launched an artificial satellite called Sputnik. United States aware of the possibility of Russia to send nuclear missiles from the satellite. Therefore the U.S. to form ARPA (Advanced Research Projects Agency) to create a technology in warding off the possibility of a missile attack from Russia.
In 1962 the RAND Corporation commissioned by the U.S. Air Force to create a new technology in communication, communication technology, this concept is, the message must be made in the form of digital packets, each â € "each package must be sent independently, if the package failed messages sent to its destination, the sender must know will this case, the packet message should be able to send it back to other destinations. In 1972 ARPANET changed its name to DARPA (Devence Advanced Research Projects Agency) and in 1975 changed again into DARPANET since that time DARPA also functioned for the public as a business network.

Dan pengaruhnya mencapai tidak hanya untuk bidang teknik komunikasi komputer tetapi seluruh masyarakat kita bergerak ke arah meningkatnya penggunaan alat-alat online untuk mencapai perdagangan elektronik, perolehan informasi, dan operasi masyarakat.
Asal mula internet bermula ketika negara Rusia pada tahun 1957 (kala itu bernama USSR, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) meluncurkan satelit buatan bernama Sputnik. Amerika Serikat menyadari akan kemungkinan Rusia untuk mengirimkan rudal nuklir dari satelite tersebut. Karenanya Amerika membentuk ARPA (Advance Research Projects Agency) untuk membuat sebuah teknologi dalam menangkal kemungkinan serangan rudal dari rusia.
Pada tahun 1962 the RAND Corporation ditugaskan oleh U.S. Air Force untuk membuat sebuah teknologi baru dalam komunikasi, konsep teknologi komunikasi ini adalah; pesan harus dibuat dalam bentuk paket digital, masing – masing paket tersebut haruslah dapat dikirimkan secara mandiri, jika paket pesan gagal dikirimkan ke tujuannya, maka pengirim harus tahu akan hal ini, paket pesan harus bisa di kirimkan kembali ke tujuan yang lain. Tahun 1972 ARPANET berubah nama menjadi DARPA (Devence Advance Research Projects Agency) dan tahun 1975 berubah lagi menjadi DARPANET karena saat itu DARPA juga difungsikan untuk publik sebagai bisnis jaringan.
